A Story: 11-26-24
“NRUMC 50th Anniversary Celebration, November 21, 2021, 10:30 Service & Lunch to Follow”

Three years ago, after NRUMC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, I drove away with 40+ box lunches—turkey, chips, a cookie, and bottled water. I’d promised the anniversary committee that any leftover lunches would be delivered to the homeless camp at the intersection of 540 and U.S. 1 South. But when I arrived, I found the camp vacant: only abandoned shopping carts and lots of trash remained.

With a car full of box lunches, I drove to Litchford Rd and turned south. I asked the Lord to lead me to where I could drop off the lunches so I could hurry and get home. At New Hope Church Rd, I swung through the parking lot, hoping to find someone in need, but nothing appeared promising. I kept driving south.

When I passed Marbles Kids Museum, I saw people sitting on the wall at Moore Square. With several cradling plastic bags filled with belongings and some sacked out on the ground behind the wall, I pulled into a vacant parking space. Two guys saw me pop the trunk and asked about boxes. I told them to help themselves to lunch and, if they wanted, to help me place the remainder on the wall.

Five minutes later, I was driving home.

Around the New Hope Church Rd intersection, the Lord asked, “Was that hard?“ No. “Think you could do that again next Sunday?“ Ah … I guess.

Since that day, “Team Jesus” has passed out over 6,000 box lunches (without the boxes) and delivered hundreds of coats, shirts, shoes, pants, socks, long johns, underwear, sleeping bags, tarps, tents, gloves, boots, blankets, and backpacks to those in need. We’ve placed individuals in motels for the night, purchased bus fares so families could be reunited, prayed with countless individuals, baptized one in the parking lot (we used bottled water), and distributed hundreds of “Jesus Messages“ with the lunches. We’ve done all this with the help of individuals who have a heart to help those in need. Christ Church at Moore Square is a body of believers who simply want to help. There’s no building, no staff, no budget, no salary. Our only pay is the joy of the Lord and knowing that when we serve those in need we are ministering to Him.

This week, we’re hoping to deliver the deposit money to a family about to move into an apartment. We only need around $300 more to get this mother and her four kids off the street. Reaching that lowest of the low rungs on the ladder is a huge step up.

If you are looking for a reason to help in a small or large way, think on this. This is kind of “fasting“ the Lord desires: to set the oppressed free, to share food with the hungry, to shelter the poor, to clothe the naked, and to care for your flesh and blood.

When we care for those in need in this way, the Lord promises to:

Bring healing quickly
Cause your righteousness to be seen by all
Answer when you call on Him
Guide you
Satisfy your needs
Strengthen your body

Isaiah 58

Thanks for reading this far. Thanks to all who have helped Nekesha, LindaLeeAnn, Alan, and the countless others “see” Jesus through your acts of kindness.

We all need to hear the GOOD NEWS!! of Jesus. Some also need to see it at work in their lives. Here is a link if you wish to help put Todd Jr and his siblings in an apartment bedroom this week. – Eddie Jones, the Pirate Preacher

Our Heart

No judgment—just Jesus. Jesus still speaks through His Holy Spirit — and He is moving in Raleigh today. At Christ’s Church at Moore Square, we listen to His voice and to those we meet in need. We seek to know each person’s name and story. Our goal is to see people the way Jesus does—with love, healing, and concern.

We believe Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We pray with expectation — laying on of hands for healing, imparting the Holy Spirit, and declaring freedom in His name. If you are hungry for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or seeking healing and restoration, come to Moore Square. You will find people who believe, pray, and expect God to move.

We take Jesus at His word: “Whatever you do for one of the least, you do for me.”

“Which of these three was a neighbor to the man?” The lawyer said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.”

Come as you are. Bring what you can. Be the hands and feet of love. Together we can spark hope that reaches beyond Moore Square and the bus station. Bring your children and let them see how Jesus heals, restores, and cares for all. Together, let’s reflect His love and power in the lives of those who need it most.

“Team Jesus” is in the park every Sunday. Others come during the week to listen, pray, lay hands on the sick, and love.

Anytime is a good time to be Jesus to someone in need. And we’re all in need in some way.

We carry the Gospel beyond the park — Send Jesus into prisons!

OUR MISSION

Downtown Raleigh Church

At Christ’s Church at Moore Square, we believe Moore Square is the heart of downtown Raleigh. We seek to be the downtown Raleigh church where anyone can find Jesus at work—preaching, teaching, and reaching with the good news of Jesus. A church where the Holy Spirit is welcome, expected, and at work.

Christ’s Church at Moore Square is a downtown Raleigh church committed to sharing Jesus’ love with those often overlooked. We meet people where they are—right in the heart of the city—with food, hope, healing prayer, and the good news of Jesus.

Christ’s Church at Moore Square follows the early church model. Believers cared for one another as needs arose. We do the same. As the Spirit prompts, we act—no meetings required. We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are alive and at work in Raleigh today.

Receive. Give. Share Jesus.

We believe Jesus meant for us to do what He did: feed, shelter, comfort, heal, hear, teach, and disciple — moved by His Spirit, empowered by His name.

“Lend to others without expecting to get anything back. Give to everyone who asks. My Father is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Therefore, be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

Luke 6:30–36, Matthew 5:42

Our Work

All donations sent to Christ’s Church at Moore Square are directed towards providing food, clothing, and basic living necessities for the less fortunate.

Reach out if you would like to know how you can help.

You can donate any amount at this link: Jesus Is Our Good Samaritan.
The more funds we have, the more fun we have helping others. 🙂

There are many ways to be part of what Jesus is doing at Moore Square.

Bring someone lunch — Show up with a meal, water, or buy new clothing. Put someone up in a motel for one night.

Send the hope of Jesus to an inmate —We send books to inmates. Ask how you can send Jesus (through His words) to visit an inmate.

Show up — every Sunday 12:30 to 1:30 PM at Moore Square, walk the park, share food, pray, and love. This is more than a mission. It’s a movement of compassion. We meet people where they are and remind them they are seen, known, and not forgotten.

We serve under the covering of Christian Devotions Ministries, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Your donation is tax-deductible. What we really seek is your heart and help. Together, we can shine Jesus’ light into the lives of those living in the shadows.

Thank You, Father, for sending those each Sunday who pray with the needy, pass out water and food, and share the love of Jesus. You have turned Moore Square into Your place of worship!
